Sapsans depart from and arrive at centrally-located train stations and save time on the road compared to a bus ride or a flight to which additional time for getting to and from airports must be added. The Sapsan bullet train from Moscow to St. Petersburg travels at an average speed of 200-250 km/h (124-155 mi/h) and covers the distance of around 645 kilometers (400 miles) between Moscow and St. Petersburg in only about 4 hours.
Remember that some Sapsans make several stops en route, while others go non-stop. Therefore, the travel time may differ a bit. On weekdays, there are usually 12 daily departures of high-speed Sapsan trains from Moscow to St. Petersburg and 12 on the reverse St. Petersburg - Moscow route.
